Work was something Byron was accustomed to because he understood nothing would be given to him in life. Byron also overcame the obstacles of being physically, mentally, and sexually abused.
Although heavily recruited out of high school his junior year, Byron DeVinner was not a qualifier during his senior year. Knowing this and that his great-great grandmother was aging, he chose to stay close her, so he decided to attend Alabama State University on a football scholarship.
OVERCOME YOUR OBSTACLES
Born in a small rural city of Calera Alabama, Byron overcame many childhood obstacles to become a successful man. After being left on his great-great grandmother’s doorstep, at two months old, Byron beat the odds. He overcame second and third degree burns when a barrel exploded in his face at the age of six, he fought through the pain to fully regain all of his eyesight.
By the time Byron reached the early age of nine, he already understood the value of hard work while balancing sports and school. Coming from a family of poverty, Byron worked four hours per day after his youth sports in a friend parents store to help Miss Gaiters pay the bills in the home. Work was something Byron was accustomed to because he understood nothing would be given to him in life. Byron also overcame the obstacles of being physically, mentally, and sexually abused by his biological mother.

Byron was determined to write this autobiography on his life and share his triumph with others through various speaking engagements and other platforms such as coaching to reach various age groups! Byron states that his book is not one of a sob story, but one that shows anyone they can beat any odds as long as they believe in The Lord, and leave it all in his hands!

Having to balance academics, athletics and taking care of his great-great grandmother, he learned the true meaning of time management. Byron developed great leadership tendencies both on the field and in the community.
BEAT THE ODDS
After college, Byron continued to beat the odds as an adult. Byron thought that he had survived the worst part of his life only to find out he was truly about to be challenged by God to remain strong. During the winter and spring of 1995 and 1996, Byron has to face legal problems brought upon by his mother. Three bogus charges which included Wreck-less Endangerment, Harassment, and Stalking. To make matters even worse Byron had to subpoena his very own great-great grandmother to testify on his behalf during the first trial in Calera.

Although he was challenged and wounded, he beat the charges. He remained inspired by the efforts of those around him and the obstacles that he has overcome in his life. Byron saw the need to make a difference not only in his community and decided to work as an undercover police officer. Working undercover not only changed Byron, but it saved the lives of many youth throughout Alabama and Louisiana.
